About The Planet Ocean Research Institute
We are a team of scientists, engineers, and explorers dedicated to uncovering the secrets of the deep ocean.
Our Mission
Our mission is to be at the forefront of deep-sea exploration, conducting rigorous scientific research that expands human knowledge of our planet. We aim to understand the complex biological, geological, and chemical processes of the ocean's depths, from hydrothermal vents to abyssal plains.
We are committed to responsible and non-invasive exploration methods, ensuring the preservation of the fragile ecosystems we study. Through collaboration and open data sharing, we strive to provide the global community with the information needed to make informed decisions about ocean conservation and management.
Our Vision
We envision a world where the deep ocean is no longer a mystery, but a well-understood and protected part of our global heritage. Our goal is to inspire a new generation of marine scientists and to foster a public appreciation for the importance of the ocean in regulating our climate and sustaining life on Earth.
Through our discoveries, we hope to unlock new solutions to global challenges, from discovering novel biotechnologies to understanding the impacts of climate change. We believe that the future of our planet is intrinsically linked to the health of our oceans.
Meet the Team
Our work is made possible by a diverse team of passionate experts.
Dr. Aris Thorne
Chief Oceanographer
With over 30 years of experience in deep-sea exploration, Dr. Thorne leads our scientific strategy and has personally piloted over 200 submersible dives.
Dr. Lena Petrova
Head of Marine Biology
Dr. Petrova is a leading expert in extremophile biology. Her research focuses on the unique life forms found around hydrothermal vents.
Kenji Tanaka
Director of Engineering
Kenji oversees the design and maintenance of our submersible and ROV fleet, ensuring our technology is always on the cutting edge.
Dr. Imani Adebayo
Head of Seafloor Geology
Dr. Adebayo specializes in marine geophysics and is responsible for our seafloor mapping initiatives and tectonic plate research.
